GALEX-SDSS photometric redshifts: Counts by type

We show here the number counts for galaxies, stars and qsos as derived from the SDSS spectroscopy, SDSS type and chi2 classifications. The right hand side plot shows the FUV counts, and the left hand side one the NUV. Dotted lines represent the counts of the GALEX objects with SDSS counterparts, solid lines the counts according to the SDSS TYPE classification, and dashed lines the counts using the classification derived from the photometric redshifts. Black filled circles represent the galaxy counts from Xu et al (2005).

FUV number counts NUV number counts

We note the very good agreement of the slopes of the qso and galaxy spectroscopic counts with that obtained from the chi 2 classification. At faint magnitudes (in particular at FUV > 21), the slight departure of the SDSS type galaxy counts from the results of Xu et al (2005) comes mainly from the use of masks.
